I recently had a chance to visit Boston and tour around Boston University. BU may be an urban campus, but there is still a distinct campus vibe. The students have the chance to take advantage of the Charles River just steps away and the area is filled with trails, shopping, and fantastic restaurants. The school offers top notch academics and endless job and internship opportunities in the city.
1. Fun Facts:
City Life: BU’s urban campus is in the heart of Boston, near cultural landmarks and Fenway Park.
Alumni Impact: Famous alumni include Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Geena Davis, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Green Initiatives: BU is known for its sustainability efforts, with LEED-certified buildings and eco-conscious policies.
2. History:
Founded in 1839 in Newbury, Vermont, BU moved to Boston in 1867. Notably, it was the first American university to open all programs to women and one of the earliest to admit African-American students.
3. Traditions:
Marathon Monday: Students cheer on runners for the Boston Marathon along Commonwealth Avenue.
BU Spirit Week: A week full of activities and themed events that promote school pride.
Midnight Breakfast: Held before finals, this event helps students de-stress and prepare for exams.
