While colleges have wonderful events on campus all throughout the year, it’s exciting to know what else is available beyond campus. If you are interested in schools in the Baltimore area such as Johns Hopkins University, UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), Morgan State University, Loyola University Maryland, MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art), Notre Dame of Maryland University, Coppin State University, or any of the other schools nearby, there is a LOT going on in Baltimore.
1. Explore the National Aquarium
Located right in the Inner Harbor, the National Aquarium is one of Baltimore's signature attractions. You can wander through tropical rainforests, see sharks and rays, watch dolphins, and explore thousands of aquatic animals. The aquarium has more than 20,000 animals and is especially impressive for its immersive habitats.
2. Walk Around the Inner Harbor
Take a leisurely stroll along the waterfront, browse shops, grab something to eat, and enjoy views of the boats and skyline. You can also hop on a Baltimore water taxi to see the city from the water and reach other waterfront neighborhoods.
3. Catch an Orioles Game at Camden Yards
Even if you're not a huge baseball fan, seeing a game at Oriole Park is a quintessential Baltimore experience. The stadium is famous for its location near downtown and its classic ballpark atmosphere. Grab a crab cake or another Baltimore favorite and enjoy an afternoon or evening at the ballpark.
4. Explore Fort McHenry
History buffs will love exploring the fort where American forces defended Baltimore during the War of 1812. The battle inspired Francis Scott Key to write the words that became “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The fort also has beautiful waterfront grounds that are great for walking and picnicking.
5. Wander Through Fells Point
Spend a few hours wandering the cobblestone streets of this historic waterfront neighborhood. Fells Point is packed with independent shops, restaurants, cafés, pubs, and historic buildings. It's particularly fun in the evening when the neighborhood comes alive.
If you end up at one of these schools you will definitely enjoy all that Charm City has to offer!
